Ljubica, 6, was playing outside with her brother when a strange man paid her money to walk down the street with him. She was never seen alive again.

CIRCUMSTANCES

As six year-old Ljubica Topic played with her brother, Michael, outside their Drouillard Road home on May 14, 1971, a man approached. The stranger had been seen previously hanging out at a restaurant across the street from the Topic house in Windsor, Ontario.

It was before 9 p.m. when the man offered Ljubica money to take a walk with him down the street. He also offered eight year-old Michael money to go ride his bike in order to distract him while he walked away hand-in-hand with Ljubica.

Michael alerted his mother when the man and Ljubica didn’t return and the police were called.

Four hours later, Ljubica’s body was found in the backyard of a Hickory Avenue home. She had been sexually assaulted and beaten to death.

Police found two of Ljubica’s teeth along with an adult tooth next to her body. They have since released an image of the suspect created by Parabon NanoLabs using DNA phenotyping from the adult tooth.

The DNA snapshot created by Parabon describes the suspect as having the following features:

  • Fair skin or very fair skin with 89.2% confidence
  • Brown or Hazel eyes with 97.0% confidence
  • Brown or black hair with 96.6% confidence
  • Zero or few freckling with 93% confidence
